Desecrated Jewish headstone
Jews have been persecuted in Regensburg from the 14th century. But while they were heavily taxed, forced to live in a ghetto, and required to wear special identification badges on their clothing, they lived under the protection of various rulers. However, in 1519, the synagogue was destroyed and replaced by a church, and the Jewish cemetery was desecrated. Seen here is a headstone from that cemetery, used to reinforced a building.
